New features that make customers more control over updates
With the release of the Windows 10 May 2019 update, we introduce new features that provide additional visibility and control over the update experience for both feature updates and monthly updates that are not security-related. New and direct controls are designed to help prevent updates from occurring unexpectedly and to indicate the specific update type. At the heart of this change is the new “Download and Install Now” option in the Windows Update settings.
• The Download and Install option now provides users with separate control to start installing the feature update on qualifying devices without known compatibility issues with blocking key blocking. Users can still “check for updates” for monthly quality and security updates. Windows will automatically start updating a new feature if Windows 10 is approaching the end of the support. We may notify you when an update feature is available for your device. All Windows 10 devices with a supported version will continue to automatically receive monthly updates. The new “download and install” option will also be available for the most common versions of Windows 10, 1803 and 1809, by late May.

Additional improvements to increase user control over updates that are introduced with the May 2019 update include the following:
• Extended ability to turn off updates for both feature and monthly updates. This extension option is for all versions of Windows 10, including the home page. Based on user feedback, we know that any update can come at an inconvenient time, as when you need a computer for a large presentation. Therefore, we can enable all users to turn off both feature and monthly updates for up to 35 days (seven days at a time, up to five times). Once the 35-day downtime is reached, users will need to update their devices before pausing again.
• Intelligent active hours to avoid restarting the disruptive update. The Active Hours feature, introduced in Windows 10 Anniversary Update, supports a manually configured date range to avoid automatic installation of updates and restarts. Many users leave working hours from 8 am to 5 pm. hypothetical. To enhance active hours, users now have the option to allow Windows Update to intelligently adjust the active hours based on the usage patterns of their devices.
• Improved update synchronization to improve system responsiveness. This feature will improve system performance by intelligently formatting Windows updates and Microsoft Store updates, so that users are away from their devices to minimize disturbances.
Extensive focus on quality
Quality is very important to us. While we always invest in and improve our quality, I would like to highlight several of the specific improvements we are making with the May 2019 update.
Expand Version Preview
The latest version of the May 2019 update will take up an increasing amount of time in the Release Preview Ring from Windows Insider, allowing us to gather more comments and ideas about compatibility and performance on a larger scale before the update is available on a larger scale. During this period, we are greatly expanding interaction with our ecosystem partners, including OEMs and ISVs, which will help improve initial quality across a variety of devices, devices and software configurations.
OEMs will start manufacturing new PCs and devices with the same structure, and both OEMs and ISPs will begin deploying the May 2019 update internally with their employees. In addition, Microsoft will deploy the May 2019 update internally during the release preview period and encourages employees to do the same on their personal computers. By carefully studying data from this large population and for additional time, we will gain increased confidence in Windows quality before being presented to a wider audience later in May.
Early detection of low-volume, high-severity issues
Our desire to find the most problematic issues quickly requires us to think differently about how we apply NLP and ML to identify serious problems faster, even when a few people report them. We build the ability to detect all types of low-risk and high-risk problems, and we have developed our data loss capabilities specifically. This includes simplifying and automating the compilation, categorization and routing of 20,000 pieces of customer feedback we receive daily and prioritizing the most important issues that engineers need to study and identify, thus improving our ability to detect severe problems for hours to days, as shown below:

We are also working on developing our Intelligent Roaming ML model to better differentiate between devices that will have a good update
